I love getting promotional pens, even though I really don’t use traditional writing implements much (comes with the territory, I do all my work and play on a computer…). And I don’t mind if anyone borrows a pen and forgets to bring it back. I have 10 others, who cares?

Well, some might. They can try the Borrow My Pen? set - even though I doubt it will work. It includes 8 pens with supposedly embarassing businesses and messages printed on them, such as “Springfield Sexual Addiction Center - From Perv to Perfect in as little as 10 days”, “Electrolysis Is Us - The First Name in Unwanted Hair Removal” and “Howie’s House of Hair - From barely there to awesome hair in just one hour”. They’re supposed to be so cringe-worthy that people won’t want to be associated with the respective fake ads, so they will return the pens fast.

Now… I think this will have no effect for three reasons:
1. Who the hell reads pens?
2. They are more funny than embarassing, so they’d make good souvenirs, more reason for people to “borrow” them permanently.
3. Most of them feature perfectly normal businesses. Why would you be ashamed of going to a hair removal salon, or a proctologist, or a nudist camp?
And, if they are so emabarassing, won’t the original owner’s image have to suffer from the association?

Sorry, they’re fun, but they don’t serve the purpose they were created for.
