I’ll admit straight away: I’ve never had a dog. I learnt about dog eating habits from cat-sitting: my friends told me to just put food in the bowl because the cat won’t gobble it all up when she sees it, like a dog would.

The DogPause Bowl is dubbed “the healthy bowl” because it slows down the pets’ eating, supposedly making them healthier in the process. I doubt a dog is in serious danger if it eats fast (after all, they’ve all been doing it… forever, haven’t they?), but it makes sense that eating slower would help, just like it helps us humans.

The DogPause is ingenious and yet simple. Outside, it’s a regular pet bowl; but inside the things change. The bowl is divided into 4 areas, each of them too small for a dog’s snout to fully fit, thus forcing a pet to only use its tongue. It’s also designed to slide a little as the dog feeds, making the dog move around more than with usual bowls.

If I were a dog, I don’t think I’d like my dinner moving around, but if it can help with problems like obesity… why not. It’s not like you can reason with an animal and explain the consequenced of overeating.
