I’m Good with my Hands t-shirt

I'm Good with my Hands t-shirtWhen someone says he’s good with his hands, what do you think about? Why of course, Rubik’s Cube, me too!

The I’m Good with my Hands t-shirt was made especially for Rubik’s fanatics and has no sexual connotation whatsoever. Really. You can see the toy there, can’t you? Some people have such dirty minds.

Of course, you can use this to your advantage if you’re looking for someone with a dirty mind. Just wear it on a night out and see who smiles or laughs at it. Now you can start a conversation and see where it takes you… Maybe even back to your place, for a late-night game of Rubik’s Cube. Ahem.

Binary Mom t-shirt

Binary Mom t-shirtAwww, I think I might have found one of the best presents for a geek mum. It’s nothing innovative, it doesn’t have blinking lights or wifi detecting capabilities, but the Binary Mom t-shirt is just plain cool.

The binary code on the tee spells “MOM”, which is sure to make a woman the star of her kid’s group – the cool mum who actually knows geeky things, wow! Of course, if you’re planning to wear one of these, make sure you do actually know binary, because you wouldn’t want a bunch of 10-year olds laughing at you… (They’re vicious, I tell you!)

One thing I noticed about this t-shirt in particular is that it has a different cut compared to the other women’s tees on ThinkGeek: classic (looser) instead of tight, which shows someone out there really considered that it won’t be worn by teenagers. Kudos.

Note: I kept the original spelling for the t-shirt name, but I still think “mum” is the right word.

Locked Chest t-shirt

Locked Chest t-shirtI haven’t featured a World of Warcraft product in a while and, seeing as I spend many hours a day in Azeroth, it feels a bit wrong.

This time it’s one for the ladies. The Locked Chest t-shirt is probably perfect for a Warcraft convention. (The Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational is sold out, alas…) If you’re a real life girl and you play World of Warcraft, the first reaction of the male attendants will be disbelief. Once they realize you’re actually there, you might have to fend off drooling teenage boys (or men). This t-shirt lets them know there’s no chance anything is going to happen: your “locked chest” requires 376 lockpicking and, like every true player knows, 375 is the maximum skill level you can reach. Oh well, too bad for them.

Also, this picture is too cool not to include:

Wikipedia t-shirt

Wikipedia t-shirtUnless you’ve been living under a (virtual) rock you know what Wikipedia is – and the fact that it’s not always reliable. One example which comes to mind is a writer who found mistakes in his page, edited it, but had the corrections removed by an user who felt he knew better. However, I keep going back to the website for the simple reason that information is presented in a condensed form and it’s perfect if you want to get a rough idea about a topic.

So I love the irony in this Wikipedia t-shirt. It makes a nice retort for Wikipedia fanboys (and girls) who won’t admit that if something is on the internet, it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true. My only gripe with the t-shirt is that it’s got the wrong brackets: they should be square brackets to really reflect Wikipedia, not parentheses.

ZipHolder

ZipHolderSome solutions are so simple we all wonder why we never though of them before… But then again, if everyone had brilliant ideas inventors couldn’t make a living.

The ZipHolder could be utterly useless sometimes and amazing at other times. You never think about your jeans zipper until it breaks… and it starts coming undone at the most inappropriate time. Yeah, you could just get the zipper fixed, but I can remember my last pair of jeans… It was like they were cursed, I changed the zipper three times and it kept breaking.

Basically what the ZipHolder does is fasten to your pants button and keeps the zipper in place, not letting it slip down. So simple, yet so effective. Until you have a toilet emergency, probably, and it slows you down. Be careful there.

Cantina Band t-shirt

Cantina Band t-shirtThere’s a whole story about the Cantina Band t-shirt over at ThinkGeek, about how the guys ran into the band on a night out, but I suspect Star Wars had something to do with it.

I did a test on my boyfriend: I just asked “Cantina band?” and he immediately replied “Star Wars!”, so, through this detailed scientific test, I have determined this is for sure a t-shirt for the fans. (For fans only, I might add, because I can’t even remember there was a scene in a cantina in A New Hope, let alone if it had a band in it or not.)

But this is what geeky t-shirts are all about: (more or less) obscure references only like-minded people could get. I’m sure that almost no one understands the message on my “Mostly Harmless” t-shirt, but it’s a great feeling when someone smiles knowingly or when a new person I meet says s/he also liked The Hitchhiker’s Guide.

Slide to Unlock t-shirt

Slide to Unlock t-shirtIf your boyfriend is more interested in his new iPhone than he is in you… you have a serious problem. Oh, one or two days is normal; after all, it’s a new geeky toy. But beyond that… Well, there is one thing that could remind him that that chattering around him is his lover trying to get some attention: a Slide to Unlock t-shirt.

Ok, it’s cheating. But just a bit. He’s bound to recognize the iPhone interface and then he’ll try to touch it. And, if touching your t-shirt in that certain areas doesn’t wake him upp… nothing will. You can just pack up and leave.

50 ways to help the planet t-shirt

50 ways to help the planet t-shirtContinuing with the Earth Day theme, here’s a very cool t-shirt, both in design and message.

The 50 ways to help the planet t-shirt features 50 symbols of ways to live a bit greener, from using rechargeable batteries or donating no longer useful products. The full list is here and, although some suggestions are silly (“By turning off your computer instead of leaving it in sleep mode, you can save 40 watt-hours per day. That adds up to 4 cents a day, or $14 per year.” Wow, 14 dollars! Am I supposed to be impressed?), most of them are good ideas. You might not save the planet, but you’ll waste less. Maybe it’s the way I was educated, but unreasonable waste annoys me. Why throw away that bag if it can still be used, at least for the trash?!

Going back to the t-shirt, it gets a plus for being available in a women’s version and for the unusual colors. I’m starting to get sick of the standard black.

Kali Girlz Black with White Skull Halter Bikini Top

Kali Girlz Black with White Skull Halter Bikini TopPirates! A good way to attract attention, especially on a beach populated with plain or flowery bathing suits. And what place can be more appropriate for pirates than the seaside?

These pirate themed bathing suits come in a wide range of models, but my favorite is the Kali Girlz Black with White Skull Halter Bikini Top. It has the cool skull, a color that goes with anything and a model that can be easily worn with a pair of jeans or a skirt and won’t look out of place. It can make a good outfit for a beach party without screaming “I didn’t feel like looking for a proper t-shirt so I put on my bathing suit”. And, for the beach, you can find a matching bikini.

Man Eating Shark Hat

Man Eating Shark HatAnyone aiming for the role of “funny guy/girl of the gang” needs a silly hat. But it needs to be unique, everyone and his mother has a jester hat nowadays.

How about a bit of Jaws? Killer sharks on the loose, biting heads off! Ok, not really, just a Man Eating Shark Hat. The shark is as realistic as a plushie can get, and the hat comes with a very handy velcro strip to adjust the size. The perfect occasion to wear it is, of course, at a movie night with Jaws or one of the sequels. See if a stuffed shark can scare anyone. But it’s a hat for any occasion, really. Well, as long as you don’t wear it for your graduation. (Though it would make a nice story to tell…)
