Wrap/Micro Tripod Combo

Wrap/Micro Tripod ComboOne of the coolest camera gadgets I’ve seen recently is the Camera Wrap, a case that stays attached to it at all times. And, one month later, here comes its counterpart: the Wrap/Micro Tripod Combo.

Like the name says, it’s a wrap and a tripod in one – an excellent combination in my book. Of course, you won’t be using that tiny tripod for fancy photos, but just think how convenient this can be on holidays. What’s better, a camera and a tripod in a large case or a lightweight wrap with legs?

Seeing as my backpack has been described as “ready for the apocalypse”, I need to start carrying less stuff around. This would be a good start.

Camera Wraps

Camera WrapsMy cameras have always been on the bulky side, but I’ve used their thin cousins too and they’re very convenient, so I was considering getting one. One of the things I noticed was that most camera cases would be too large for the thin ones… which is good, if you want to pop an extra pair of batteris in there, but otherwise take up too much space. I never thought that someone adapted something I’d seen years ago.

I first saw the system used for the Camera Wraps in an old Russian camera my parents had: they come with a screw that goes in the tripod fitting on the base. Once fixed in place, the wrap simply goes over the camera and closes with a Velcro strip. The wraps measure 23.5 x 11.5 x 0.2 cm in size and will fit most cameras up to an inch (2.5 cm) thick.

I find it a brilliant idea because it’s got two advantages over classic cases. One, pulling on a Velcro strip is faster than unzipping a bag. Two, it always stays attached, so you would have to be very crafty to manage to lose it. Since it’s not too expensive either… I say we’ve got a winner.

Plug It

Plug It
One of the things I dislike most about my camera and my phone is that they require extra cables to connect them to a PC. Of course, conversations like “Sorry, I can’t show you the photos now, I don’t have the USB cable with me” are frequent, because I can never remember to take it along.

The Plug It seems a perfect solution for me. It’s an USB cable with an attractive design which can be used as a keychain or cell phone charm, to make sure you never run into problems like the one above. It’s available in various colors and models and offers microUSB, mini USB and connectors for Nokia and Samsung (a Sony Ericsson is apparently on the way). The price tag is very wallet-friendly, so I think this could be a great hit.

iPhone Wide Angle Lens

iPhone Wide Angle LensMaybe you remember the iPhone Zoom Attachment we featured a while ago. Useless, in my opinion, but some people must have liked the idea, since someone is now selling an iPhone Wide Angle Lens.

The lens is attached to a clear plastic ‘cover’ which slips over the phone. It looks easy to use, but you won’t be able to use any iPod case while it’s on.

This being said, my question remains: why bother with accessories like this for a mediocre camera?

Conice 6×18 Zoom Attachment for iPhone

nameSo you’re cool and bought an iPhone. Now you’re thinking what accesories you can add to get the most out of it… If I just described you, please skip this next item when you’re making your shipping list.

The Conice 6×18 Zoom Attachment for iPhone is exactly what the name says – a zoom attachment for the most talked-about phone of the past few months.

But… why in the world would you need a zoom attachment for a phone camera? It’s a phone camera, it’s not supposed to do more than take some snapshots. A zoom attachment will only ensure you’ll take even worse, blurry snapshots. If you can afford an iPhone, you can probably afford a decent camera too.
