Fizz Saver Dispenser

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Fizz Saver DispenserPutting the cap back on a bottle is too much work for some people, or else the Fizz Saver Dispenser wouldn’t be marketed as such a life-saving device.

It functions on a relatively simple principle: it screws onto the top of the bottle which is then flipped around, and a tube and nozzle dispense the drink right into a glass.

Why this would save the fizziness better? No clue. But the idea of drinking soda from the tap is cool, so that alone is a reason to buy one.

P.S. Ignore the bad editing job on the photo, the nozzle doesn’t go directly in the bottle, they just deleted the tube by mistake.

Santa Christmas Snow Globe Bottle Stopper

Santa Christmas Snow Globe Bottle StopperChristmas spirit is great. Most people (religious or not) enjoy the fuzzy feeling of the holidays and love decorating and getting into the proper mood.

But sometimes decorating goes over the top. Tinsel, various ornaments, seasonal centerpieces - fabulous. Santa Christmas Snow Globe Bottle Stopper - less so. Snow globes are amazing… when they’re good quality (you know, when the “snow” looks like snow) and stand-alone.

Putting one on top of a bottle of wine defeats the purpose; is one supposed to shake the bottle to get the full effect? I don’t think the drink inside will enjoy it too much.

Thank you, I’ll use a regular cork and my old snow globe separately.

Rabbit Keychain Bottle Opener

Rabbit Keychain Bottle Opener
Bugs Bunny would cringe if he knew what his lookalike cousin has to do. Yes, rabbits have big teeth, but they’re for nibbling on carrots, not beer bottles!

And still… the Rabbit Keychain Bottle Opener uses those very teeth to help thirsty people in need. It wants to be handy all the time, so his ears are actually carabiners. It comes in three colors (pink, yellow and blue) and it’s cute enough to make a decent accessory too.

You might be a bit embarassed to use it if you’re going for a macho man look, but for just $3 you could just go for the yellow version and grunt at whoever dares to question your manliness. Besides, how could something that can bring a man and a beer closer together be a bad thing?

Skull Beer Funnel

Skull Beer FunnelHalloween’s come and gone, but the accessories live on. And hey, a beer bong shaped like a skeleton can be used again and again at parties!

The Skull Beer Funnel rocks - if you like creepy and tasteless drinking implements. (So it’s going to be a sure hit, judging by my college friends’ tastes.) Why take a shortcut when you can choose the long way? Have a friend hold your beer and the skull, attach your thirsty mouth to the end end of the plastic esophagus and bombs away! Booze tastes much better when you’re making a fool out of yourself, doesn’t it.

A must have for dorm parties. It will seem the most natural thing in the world after a couple of drinks. Med students can even pretend it’s an educational experience.

Ring Thing Bottle Opener

Ring Thing Bottle OpenerHow to impress ladies, tip #4524: open their drinks with your ring. It’s not even difficult, you don’t need special skills… just a special ring.

The Ring Thing Bottle Opener is just what the name says. It comes in several sizes to fit most fingers and it’s (of course) made from stainless steel… but the real questions are “How comfortable is it?” and “How ugly is it?”. My money is on “not very” and “pretty ugly”, but as long as it’s only used on pub crawling or party nights neither will be a major problem. (Impressing girls will be an issue, however.)

Does it take a real dedicated boozer to invest $10 in something like this? Probably, but any of your drinker friends would probably appreciate it as a gift. At least for the comedy value.

PAC-MAN Collectors’ Shot Glass Set

PAC-MAN Collectors' Shot Glass SetPAC-MAN will never die. He’s 28, which is ancient in computer game years, but still going strong and entertaining new generations, so it’s no wonder cool merchandise keeps popping up.

One perfect example is the PAC-MAN Collectors’ Shot Glass Set, which can be the hit of any party populated by old gamers. It might not be as exciting as the newest shooter, but it’s a piece of history… and celebrating a historical event is as good an excuse as any for getting drunk.

The set has six glasses, each with a distinctive 8-bit picture of PAC-MAN, Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Pokey and Bonus Cherries (who knew the ghosts had names?). Naturally, imaginative boozers can devise a some complex drinking games starting from this setup.

P.S. Limited edition, so they won’t be around for very long!

Bubba Keg

Bubba KegThe Bubba Keg is supposedly “already an American institution”. For those (like me) who had never heard of it, a short explanation: think of a big insulated cup. 52 or 70 oz big. And since it’s made to store beer, it’s also shaped accordingly - like a keg.

What it does best is keep drinks cold - up to 12 hours. It can do hot too, but it’s only effective for 3 hours in that case. It comes with a flip-top lid to prevent spills and an easy-grip handle, and even has a build-in bottle opener, since that beer inside has to come from somewhere, right? (No, sorry, it doesn’t ship already filled.)

Once step one (getting the keg) is finished, step two can begin: assemble a couple of friends and go out to test it. Which of course will consist of multiple samplings of beer. All in the name of science!

Squeasy Tea Bag Squeezer

Squeasy Tea Bag SqueezerI’m a tea lover (especially now, since it’s getting colder), but all the “accesories” I have are a cup and a teaspoon. And why would I need more? After all it’s just some leaves in water, not rocket science.

The Squeasy Tea Bag Squeezer sure makes having a cuppa look complicated. You need a piece of metal because otherwise you’d burn your hand on the teabag! a) I don’t think squeezing it with your hand is really sanitary; b) why not a teaspoon? I’ve never heard of anyone having problems with this tried and true method, so even $6.50 is a lot for something so unneccessary.

It’s difficult to imagine why anyone except a tea accesories collector would want one. And there’s probably just a few such people.

PlatyPreserve

PlatyPreserveI’m not a big wine lover, so I never considered the best method of preserving an opened bottle. Pop the cork back in and hope? Not that I can tell the difference in taste anyway.

If you really like wine, however, you know better than to do like me. There’s a variety of cork-like tools to be had, but today I give you something different. The PlatyPreserve is a special container that lets you eliminate all oxygen and maintain the original taste. The way it works is very simple: just pour the wine in then squeeze the PlatyPreserve until there’s no air inside (or at least at close as it can get), screw in the top and tada! wine that can be enjoyed next time you feel like having a glass, even if it’s next week.

The other great thing about this container is the weight - almost nonexistent compared to a bottle, thus perfect for light travelers. It also eliminates the risk of getting a suitcase of clothes soaked in wine after an accident. Don’t tell me you feel safe if you leave a bottle inside check-in luggage…

CupCooley

CupCooleyOne cup cozy for one coffee every day adds up to quite a lot of wasted paper. But there’s other, more sustainable solutions, and they’re very affordable.

CupCooley is a reusable silicone cup cozy that’s small enough to be carried around all the time, in a purse or glove compartment. It’s got bumps all over, so even the clumsiest person would have a hard time dropping their drink on the floor.

It comes in three colors: green, pink and brown, and, honestly, it looks much better than a regular cozy. And bright colors could do much to cheer up my mornings… whenever I have to be up before 9. Which, thankfully, doesn’t happen very often.
