Math Mug

Math MugMug are one of my favorite gift products, since there’s soooo many models anyone is guaranteed to find a favorite.

In this episode, a special one for the science buffs. The Math Mug features a bunch of formulas (formulae?), from “1+1=2″ to more complex stuff with funny symbols and Greek letters. We all did some maths in school, but who can remember what all those equations mean?

If you know one of them, give them a Math Mug. They can entertain themselves afterwards watching poor unfortunates racking their brains to figure out what that λ signified or why some things are written in subscript.

Space Invader Magnet Collection

Space Invader Magnet CollectionSpace Invaders! Again! We’ve had a lot of 80s computer aliens themed merchandise, from pillows to badges, but the Space Invader Magnet Collection has me all excited.

What’s so special about some kitchen magnets? Well, nothing really, if we’re talking about functionality. But imagine the possibilities: a big white fridge and some black pixelated invaders. With a couple of sets you could turn a boring white space into a replica of the old-school game screen, how cool can that be?

Each set includes 5 pieces – a cannon and four aliens: UFO, squid, crab and octopus. Too bad you can’t buy each separately: you only need one cannon (maybe 3 if you’ve got the extra lives on “screen”), but many more invaders… 10 sets or so should be enough though, so if you like the idea start dropping hints to your friends.

Toastabags

ToastabagsToast can be a food group in itself. When there’s no more money for pizza, some bread, cheese and ham can keep a college student fed for days.

The Toastabags aim to improve the experience. Toast is nice and warm, but the things on it aren’t. What the Toastbags try to do is turn a regular toaster into a sandwich maker. The bag with a whole sandwich goes in the toaster, and yummy melted cheese on crunchy toast comes out.

In theory. I just checked out my toaster and there’s no way two pieces of bread and something in between could fit in there without breaking it.

But, if your toaster is up for this, the bags sound very useful: each pack has two of them, and they can be wiped and reused many times. Much cheaper than buying a sandwich maker.

Glow-In-The-Dark Skeleton Apron & Oven Mitt

Glow-In-The-Dark Skeleton Apron & Oven MittUnless you still live with your mum or can afford to eat out every day, sooner or later you’ll be forced to cook. Inexperienced cooks (or shall we call them “burners”?) are much more likely to end up with various foodstuff on their clothes or with blisters on their hands, so they need protection. No, not that kind.

And since the inexperienced people are likely to be young, what could better than playing a prank on friends? Ok, eating good food would be, but since we already know it’s going to get burnt, might as well have fun afterwards. The Glow-In-The-Dark Skeleton Apron & Oven Mitt is the perfect set for the situation. Really. Useful by day, scary by night! Cook, invite some friends over for dinner, then try to give them a heart attack.

They pieces are sold separately, so you could go for the bony hand or for the half-skeleton alone if you feel like it. Or get two mitts for a complete get-up, then wait until a poor unsuspecting soul comes by.

Silicone Sink Strainer

Silicone Sink StrainerMessines is never our fault. If we had the time, or the right tools, or some help, the place would be spotless!

So here’s another thing you don’t need, but you will want. After all, it can save you all of 30 seconds, it will be priceless! This Silicone Sink Strainer is your regular run-of-the-mill strainer with one added feature: it can be turned upside down. It’s flexible, so it can be pulled and pushed back for easy cleaning. Once it gets filled with disgusting pieces of food, all you need to do is pull on it, throw the stuff away, rinse and push it back.

Actually, what I like best about it isn’t the flexibility – it’s the size. It looks much bigger than any strainer I’ve seen before, so it can hold more food, which means an easier time while washing lots of dishes. (Yes, I know that if it gets clogged up the water won’t drain anymore, but sometimes you just want to get all the bits of food on the sink bottom.)

Wood Toilet Seat with Easy Clean Hinges

Wood Toilet Seat with Easy Clean HingesI judge people by their bathrooms. Maybe it’s wrong, but I do. I don’t want to be able to eat off the floor, but a dirty bathroom makes my opinion of a person take a plunge… So, obviously, I want my bathroom to look decent and at least moderately clean. But why does the dust only settle on my toilet?! Really, it’s creepy, the washing machine is clean but the toilet bowl and parts of the seat get covered in dust in a week.

Obvious solution: oh well, I’ll just dust it more often. But there’s no way to fit a rag everywhere… So this is where the Wood Toilet Seat with Easy Clean Hinges comes in: the special hinges make it come off with a simple twist. Afterwards it’s cleaning is a much easier job; just plop the toilet seat under the shower or take a sponge and wash it, then do the toilet bowl edge.

Extra bonus: the DuraGuard antimicrobial inhibits the growth of stain and odor-causing bacteria that form on the toilet seat. No more worries about what germs might be gathering in those dirty corners…

Nite Coaster

Nite CoasterSharing a room with someone can be difficult at times: no two people have the same habits, and what’s normal for one might be annoying for the other. The Nite Coaster could help solve at least one problem.

If one of the partners/roommates wakes up during the night and need a glass of water or some pills from the nightstand and turns on the lamp… s/he might have to face a very pissed off sleepy person across the bed. The Nite Coaster uses a movement sensor to light up the object placed on it, which makes it easy for both people: the one awake won’t have to fumble in the dark, and the one asleep will get to stay asleep.

If you’ve got a light-sensitive boyfriend or girlfriend, get one; 2 a.m. figths are not fun.

Electric Wine Opener

Electric Wine OpenerOpening a bottle of wine may not seem like a big deal, but it can be. People with arthritis, the elderly and the weak, or those with two left hands can and will have problems, from inability to pull the cork out to accidentally breaking it to pieces.

So why not make them happy with a stylish present? The Electric Wine Opener does everything at the touch of a button: cuts the seal, removes it, penetrates the cork and pulls it out. It can open up to 30 bottles on one charge, but no one probably opens this many at one time, and the base also serves as a charger, so chances are it will never run out battery when needed.

And never forget the “wow” factor. Amazing guests with your gadgets is always fun.

Get-It Pot Holder

Get-It Pot HolderEver since I started paying attention to gadgets of all kinds I’ve noticed that there’s no item that can’t be improved or at least have some new features added.

In today’s episode, something you can see in any kitchen: the pot holder. But ah, it’s not any pot holder! As you can see in the picture, the Get-It Pot Holder has an unique grip: when you pick up something, you hook two fingers around the grip to make sure it won’t slip from your hand. And, very convenient, the grip also doubles as a suction cup, in case you want to keep the pot holder close (for example on the oven door).

And, like any good pot holder should, it’s heat resistant (up to 600 F) and non-slip. Which reminds me that mine is neither… I should get buying.

(P.S. You can get it in Mediterranean blue (pictured), red, white and wasabi.)

Ultimate Travel Mug

Ultimate Travel MugTravel mugs are priceless in certain situations, so of course they are all over the place. But apparently they all pale in comparison to the Ultimate Travel Mug.

What makes it “ultimate”? Well, for starters it doesn’t have a sip hole, it has a button. The top opens by pushing the button, then closes with a push of the outer ring, so it’s only exposed to the outside while you drink from it, thus keeping the liquid warmer for a longer time. Double walls? Of course, but not any walls: there’s vacuum between them.

The lack of a handle is presented as an advantage, but I’d like one, personally. If you’re a klutz you’re much less likely to drop something you have a good grip on.

On the plus side, the makers invented the first travel mug, so that’s got to count for something.
