Ultimate Travel Mug

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Ultimate Travel MugTravel mugs are priceless in certain situations, so of course they are all over the place. But apparently they all pale in comparison to the Ultimate Travel Mug.

What makes it “ultimate”? Well, for starters it doesn’t have a sip hole, it has a button. The top opens by pushing the button, then closes with a push of the outer ring, so it’s only exposed to the outside while you drink from it, thus keeping the liquid warmer for a longer time. Double walls? Of course, but not any walls: there’s vacuum between them.

The lack of a handle is presented as an advantage, but I’d like one, personally. If you’re a klutz you’re much less likely to drop something you have a good grip on.

On the plus side, the makers invented the first travel mug, so that’s got to count for something.

Twitsig Mug

Twitsig MugEven though we might feel Twitter is the best thing since sliced bread, some might be amazed to know that other people don’t even know what Twitter is. For them, a mug with your thoughts written on it would be a big “wtf”.

But for the addicts, the Twitsig Mug is just another way of expressing themselves. In more than 140 characters even, if they have small handwriting. The mug features the familiar graphics so, if you feel your office needs to know what you’re up to, grab a felt tip pen and get offline twittering.

Why you would want to twitter at people who can see you, beats me, but you can do it. At least as a tribute to your undying love of microblogging. (Now they’ll be sure you’re a disturbed one so they’ll avoid you. Writing your thoughts down might end up the last way of communicating…)

Boon Squirt Baby Food Dispensing Spoon

Boon Squirt Baby Food Dispensing SpoonHaving children can be a blessing for anyone, but let’s admit it, it’s not always the most pleasant experience. Especially if your angel decides to be obnoxious and cause the most trouble possible.

Even for those who don’t have kids, this image is familiar from movies: mum with a spoon, trying to make the food go inside baby’s food, not on the floor or clothes. In a case like this, a gadget like the Boon Squirt Baby Food Dispensing Spoon could make parents’ lives a bit easier, especially when traveling.

It looks very easy to use: the container must be filled with baby food, and then all mum has to do is squeeze it a little to allow some food to pass to the spoon. Baby can still make a mess, but he can’t knock any bowl over and the poor mother won’t have to keep dipping her spoon in food all the time. And in case you have to go out for a bit and don’t want to drag a jar of food around, you can just fill the Boon and be on your way.

Date-Minder Clips

Date-Minder ClipsDid you ever see one of those fridges with food that has given birth to new life? Food that looks like it could get up and start running around any minute? That’s what happens if you forget just how long it’s been sitting there. Ok, sometimes it’s just user stupidity - you can see the expiry date - but some products just don’t have this kind of info on them.

This is where the Date-Minder Clips help out. The first use, the obvious one, is that they keep bags securely closed. The second, less obvious one, is that they can tell you exactly when you first opened a bag. Relying on hard fact is much more effective than sniffing, tasting or looking. I sure wouldn’t have tried to eat those 2-week old cereal if I’d know how long they’d been sitting there…

Carton Holder

Carton HolderIf you look at all the so-called innovative kitchen gadgets and gizmos, you might be tempted to think they’re designed for idiots, or at least for the incredibly lazy. Which sometimes rings true. Other times… it’s just a matter of addressing common problems.

Who needs a Carton Holder? Is it that difficult to lift a carton of milk from the fridge, pour, put back? Uh… yes it is, if you’re clumsy. Slippery carton, overfilled carton, shaky hands - they can all spell “milk all over your kitchen”. Being among the clumsier segment of the population, I’ve spilt my share of liquids on the floor, so yes please, give me a holder. They’re extremely simple and cheap: a plastic square “cup” with a handle in which you place the carton.

You’d have to be a real klutz to drop something with a handle however, so be careful, there’s no excuse from now on.

Bloody Serial Killer Shower Curtain

Bloody Serial Killer Shower CurtainSome people’s idea of a fashionable house is covering it in kitsch from ceiling to floor. The Bloody Serial Killer Shower Curtain was created for them (or college students).

It not only features a pattern of blood splatters complete with killer silhouette; it can also play the appropriate Psycho music with the help of a motion and sound sensor. You know, someone walks in the bathroom, triggers it, runs out yelling? Yeah, dumb. Even Psycho fans wouldn’t think this is tasteful.

The only place it would fit in is a dorm bathroom. Maybe. If inhabited by people with a bad sense of humor.

I’m Not Gay, I Just Really Love Rainbows coasters

I'm Not Gay, I Just Really Love Rainbows coastersIf you’re a man who happens to admire the miracles of Mother Nature, such as, say, rainbows… you’re in trouble. Try wearing anything rainbow themed and you’ll be either made fun of or congratulated for being so brave to wear it. Like it or not, the rainbow is not a symbol of the gay movement and there’s nothing you can do about it.

But a set of coasters can set it straight for you (pun unintended): I’m Not Gay, I Just Really Love Rainbows. The message is clear enough. And the guy in the picture? No, not a homosexual; you just like 80s disco. Fact.

Pizza Pro

Pizza ProIf your pizza making involves tradition and/or secret family recipes, you’re likely to be horrified by the next implement. If pizza is just food for you, just might appreciate a tool that makes eating easier.

The Pizza Pro is… weird. It’s what happens when a spatula and a scissors have a baby. It’s also supposed to make cutting a pizza easier. Knives and wheels tend to damage pans if they’re good, or not cut all the way through if they’re bad, so in theory a scissors is a valid idea. The spatula makes it easy to place the slice on a plate without it breaking down the middle and spreading the ingredients all over the table - good point, again. But I don’t understand something: look at the picture; how do you make the first cut in order to insert the spatula and cut the other side?

It’s just it looks so… non-kitcheny. Scissors are for cutting fabric or paper, not food. I don’t know. Too much innovation for me.

Mana Mug

Mana MugI played a warrior for so long I could forget mana existed… and then I rolled a caster and it became my new best friend. But, in order to afford playing with my warrior or my mage, I need money, which comes from working. Which requires getting up in the morning…

And what better way to drink your coffee than from a Mana Mug? Coffee basically does the same as mana: gives you energy to work your magic, be it crunching figures or late-night gaming. The mug features the familiar mana vial we all know and love, all in the customary blue color.

However, if you problem is not you mana but your HP, you can always go for the Health Mug for the same price.

Scoop Clip

Scoop ClipMy kitchen usually looks like some sort of tornado just had a trip through it, so I’m constantly on the lookout for gizmos to make organizing it an easier task. But I’m not sure if the Scoop Clip can be one of them.

The good: it does two jobs - holds a sugar/coffee/etc bag closed and has a scoop for dispensing said product. The bad: since it’s on the bag at all times, it’s going to get dusty. Maybe I’m a bit OCD, but I’d have to wash it every time… and in that case, I could just use a normal spoon. The upside of the scoops I have right now is that they stay inside the jars, so I know there’s no way they can get dirty.

All in all, I think the bad outweighs the good. Spoon and regular clips it shall be… But if you’re confident your sugar’s in a clean dust-free place (or you don’t have issues with that), go for it, by all means. 2-in-1 rocks my world.
