Fancy jewelry is all over the place. Simple things are also pretty easy to find. But when it comes to something a bit more complex, yet whimsical, the offer seems to be limited. Don’t women like to wear funny/silly jewelry that still looks good? My strolls through jewelry stores say “no”, unfortunately, and if there isn’t a big enough market for them, accessories I like won’t get made.
I am understandably happy when I find something as attractive as this. The Lil Angry Owl Necklace has an adorable and original pendant. The owl manages to be cute even while it’s giving the world a pissed off look and it’s a great accessory for girls who are still young enough to afford acting and dressing playfully. But, seeing as it’s designed to be understated, I think it can also be successfully used to brighten up a stiff work suit, to show there’s a real person under there and she’s real nice.

I was going to write about how some people like to follow trends, while others like being original, and I realized I wasn’t right. Many of the “originals” are just following their own trend – it’s now cool to wear handmade objects, to ransack your mum’s closet for 70s clothes and/or to be geeky. And, as far as trends go, I love it. People who follow it are likely to be kindred spirits.
While I doubt it’s handmade, I see the Cassette Tape Necklace as a future hit with retro fans and geeks alike, maybe even eco-minded people. The pendant is cut from an old vinyl record into the shape of the cassette tape and it has three things going for it:
- originality (everyone will notice a black tape among all the silvery and gold pendants around)
- recycling (those vinyl would’ve been thrown away, right?)
- commentary on life (ok, maybe that’s too much to say, but the tape replaced the vinyl and now it’s been replaced by the CD… what’s next?)
If you’re looking for special jewelry and you’re bored with the traditional precious metals and gemstones… look no further.

I’m not big on jewelry, but even the 4 or 5 necklaces I have always end up in one big knot, no matter how tidy I try to put them in the box. It’s just… a box doesn’t work for delicate necklaces. They will get tangled up, and the most difficult to untangle will be the one you want to wear tonight.
My temporary solution was hanging them on a couple of nails I hammered in the cupboard where I kept them. But the Mini Coat Rack Jewelry Stand looks much better and offers more storage space. With 6 large and 6 small hooks it can hold a lot of things – not only necklaces, but also rings, bracelets, earrings -, keeping them handy and tidy.
A bit too expensive, maybe, but sometimes spending a little is preferable to lots of daily frustration.

If you’ve got a lot of jewelry, some items remains unworn because you just don’t run into them… And it’s difficult to keep a mental list of all the necklaces or rings you have.
A Clear Top Ring Box sounds like a very good idea for a girl who has a lot of jewelry. One, you can easily see through it, so no more opening and closing a dozen boxes. Two, it keep everything in order, so you won’t have look for that ruby ring from grandma under a bunch of bracelets. Three, it’s big enough to fit a lot of rings.

Geeky fashion accessories are one of the things I really enjoy finding, because they break that stereotype of the girl-nerd who has no fashion sense whatsoever. A well chosen pair of earrings or a bracelet can be stylish and convey something about you.
The Floppy Disk Earrings are stylish enough, if a bit large for my taste (about 1 x 1″). They’re handmade from hama beads, not too flashy and say “I remember floppy disks”. The one problem I do have is the price. Really, are they worth that much? As pretty as they are, I would rather try to make my own than pay more than $20 for a pair.

Does “Baby, why don’t you buy me a diamond necklace?” sound familiar? Well, you’d better start looking for the money, because in my opinion girls like this won’t stick around if you don’t.
But if you have a girlfriend with a sense of humor and who knows you’re not Donald Trump, you can give the Wishlist Necklaces a try. What are they? Well, basically pieces of plastic with various jewelry-related texts. There’s six models available, from the pictured “stunning diamond necklace” to a simple “emerald necklace” to the intricate “beautiful pendant necklace with sapphires and diamond accent. the pendant is set with nine blue sapphires, accented with a diamond at the top. beautiful against the 18K white gold setting.” for girls who spend their time browsing jewelry catalogs.
To recap: not for high-maintenance girls; perfect for girls with a sense of humor or who shun the money-obsessed capitalistic world.

Well, there’s egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam…
Recognize this? No? In that case, go buy Monty Python’s Flying Circus right now! The Spam Sketch is one of their most famous and it’s said to be the origin for the word “spam” as we know it in the internet sense.
These Spam Can Earrings can be worn as a tribute to Monty Python or a bitter remark over the state of the internet. Actually, that’s all I can say; they’re pretty ugly, I wouldn’t wear them as a fashion statement.
