My neck has been killing me lately and as much as I love my laptop, I sometimes wish I had a desktop, so I don’t get a hump until I’m 30. The cool Fellowes Office Suites Laptop Riser Plus has a lot of things I like: you can adjust it to eye level (so you don’t get back pain, like me), you can even rotate it to 360 degrees for easy viewing, the very useful cooling vent and an In-line copyholder.

I’m not one of those people who think their laptops are made from fragile crystal and need to be kept in over-padded bags at all times… but really, they’re not that sturdy so some protection is necessary.

The LapStrap offers none. It’s basically a shoulder strap which supports your laptop, making it easy to carry around. It’s extremely easy to use: you just place it across the laptop and close the lid.

I think it’s obvious what’s wrong with it: where’s the protection? One, I don’t trust my laptop hinge that much. What if it falls open? Two, I tend to bump into things, and I don’t think hitting a door laptop-first would benefit it much. I suppose it’s ok for carrying around the office or at a time when you really need two free hands, but paying $25 for this? Not for me.

I bought my laptop without giving every little detail too much thought. It was on sale and the main specs were perfect for me. What I didn’t know was what happens when you try to use a glossy display in the sun: nothing. The laptop becomes unusable and to call it “unpleasant” is an understatement.

That’s why I was very happy to see the MacWorld reports about this nifty invention: the LapDome “Collapsible”. It’s basically a little tent for your laptop, that provides that vital component: darkness. Like the name indicates, when not in use in can be be “collapsed” into the stow bag, so don’t worry about walking around with a tent in your hand.

I loved it the second I first saw it, and I’m very happy it’s cheap enough to be included here. It’s awful to see great products that don’t fit the price bracket.

There probably isn’t anyone on the face of the Internet who’s interested in IT and hasn’t heard about the new MacBook Air.

While we were fascinated, someone thought very fast (and will probably make a lot of money in the process). Steve Jobs showed the audience how the Air can fit inside a manila envelope and, soon later, there was a real laptop cover in the shape of a manila envelope. The ManilaMac looks great. I think the idea is great and it looks fabulous. If it’s also good enough for protecting your Air, I predict a lot of success.
