Fail Whale Mug

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

nameI’ve given Twitter a shot but, more often than not, whenever I would want to post my brilliant ideas for the world to see I would get that cute image of the whale which meant that oh well, server’s down, tough luck.

Since Twitter seems to have issues on a regular basis, the Failwhale has become a little online celebrity with its own dedicated website/fan club. And what star doesn’t have branded merchandise?

The Fail Whale Mug features our fat friend being lifted by birdies, just like on Twitter. If you ever miss him, but the microblogging service is working, you can just look down and there he is.

FTW! Mug

FTW! MugBecause I’m a fan of mugs and cups and other objects you can drink out of, I get excited when I find a potential addition to my collection.

The FTW! Mug is only for those in the know. For the mere mortals, it makes no sense. (If you really want to know, it stands for “for the win”.)

I don’t know if it actually works, but such an optimistic mug could boost your morale a bit on a dreary day at the office. Yeah, the boss is a retard and the guy next to you has been chewing gum loudly for 2 hours, but you’re the win! And you’ll go home and be rid of their presence soon.

Remember one thing, though (from the ThinkGeek knowledge base): This Mug is Full of Win (and possibly also coffee, so be careful).

My Cuppa

My CuppaCups, mugs or whatever you prefer calling them are a popular items for online purchase, judging by the amount of coverage they get on websites such as this. This is a bandwagon I like jumping on, since I am a fan of interesting looking mugs.

My Cuppa is a mug that is supposed to make it easier for you and other people to get the perfect tea or coffee, based on color. In theory, instead of saying “two sugars” or “hold the milk”, you should point out the appropiate color and the designated coffee maker should try to match it as closely as possible.

While the design is interesting, I have a couple of questions. How does sugar figure in this, since it doesn’t influence color? What if you drink herbal tea, which is not dark? For this price, you must like the design a lot to get it, since I doubt it can be any real help.

Global Warming Mug

Global Warming MugI am a little tree hugger at heart. I am also a frequent tea-drinker, so I am forever fascinated by the variety of cups available. I don’t have that much room in my cupboard, so I have to filter them out a bit…

Today’s mug happily unites my two interests. The Global Warming Mug reacts to heat, so your liquid of choice will make the ocean spread across the continents as the ice caps melt and the water levels rise. Not the most optimistic way to start the day, I know. But it looks cool and some of us actually enjoy thinking about these things. We’re not there yet, so there’s still hope, right?

Disappearing Civil Liberties Mug

Dissapearing Civil Liberties MugMy latest source of fascination are these thermosensitive mugs. The idea of text/color appearing or disappearing depending on the temperature of a liquid is so awesome! True, they’re just mugs, but I am easily amused and I can see myself staring at something like this for a long long time…

After the Hot Cold Mug, I found another example of this: the Disappearing Civil Liberties Mug. Pour hot liquid, wait for a bit, then watch as your civil liberties disappear in front of your eyes. Beside the “wow” factor, you can use this to send a message out there, if anyone’s listening.

Beer Mug of Blooms

Beer Mug of BloomsGirls like flowers. Admittedly, there are a few exceptions, but the rule is valid in most cases. The only thing: make sure you get her favorite flowers; red roses are nice, but so cliché.

If you have a girl with a real good sense of humor, you could give her a Beer Mug of Blooms. But make sure that she’d appreciate such a gift before hand. You don’t want your head to have to have a too-close encounter with said mug…

Maybe this would be more appropriate as a funny present from a girl to a beer-loving guy. But either way, $29.99 for a novelty gift with no other use… I say too much.
