USB Waterproof Mouse

USB Waterproof MouseHow often do you feel the need to wash your mouse? Except for the odd spilled coffee accident, it stays perfectly dry and if it’s really necessary you can wipe it with some alcohol.

So I was wondering why someone would want an USB Waterproof Mouse. And then… I zoomed in a photo. It looks cool. Very cool. A black mouse covered in silicone with no obvious buttons is awesome. And the buttons do exist, 5 of them no less, more than I had expected from a run-of-the-mill novelty mouse.

I still think making it waterproof is pretty silly and useless, but this time the side effects were better than the actual purpose of the thing.

Bust Beauty Pad

Bust Beauty Pad

It doesn’t get worse. USB gadgets have officially sunk to their lowest. I am hoping against reason that there’s no one out there who wants this.

So what is “this”? Offically, the Bust Beauty Pad. Unofficially, the USB Boob Warmer.

Yes. They made a pad that goes inside a woman’s bra and generates heat via an USB connection. Why? We can only wonder. Maybe you work in a cold office and the draft is hitting your chest. Maybe you have a special bra for the outside, so you don’t need heating while on the move. Or maybe you will buy a netbook just to keep your boobs warm while walking home…

I predict an ass warmer next. Thanko, are you listening?

USB Revolving Hub

USB Revolving HubYes, I am only featuring this because of the flowers.

Now that we’ve got it out of the way… The USB Revolving Hub offers 4 ports, conveniently placed to allow differently sized and shaped gadgets to be powered (yes, even the infamous humping dog will find a spot there).

Of course, about 24792 other hubs can do this, so what’s special? Honestly, nothing. But I like the flowers, and the design of the device is very practical. It comes in black with white flowers and white with black flowers.

LaCie CurrenKey USB Flash Drive

LaCie CurrenKey USB Flash DriveThere’s nothing stopping flash drive designers from coming up with new shapes for these omnipresent computer accessories and, while some fall squarely in the crapgadget category, others are innovative.

The LaCie CurrenKey USB Flash Drive looks special, even though it’s a regular 4GB drive underneath. Shaped like a coin and with a bronze finish, it resembles an American penny or a 5 eurocents coin, only fatter and bigger.

You have to pay a premium for the design, of course, but $20 for 4GB and a great look isn’t a lot.

Veho 54-in-1 Card Reader

Veho 54-in-1 Card ReaderSometimes simple things are the best. A gadget doesn’t have to be complicated, exotic, shiny or big to be worth getting, and the Veho 54-in-1 Card Reader proves it.

It’s by no means something never seen before, but it’s extremely practical. First, it can read a lot of cards (not sure where they got the 54 from): MS, MS Pro, MS Duo pro, MS Duo, MD Pro, M2, SDHC, SD Ultra, SD, MMC, MMCII, MS MMC, Mini SD, Trans flash, Micro SD and is Sim compatible.

Second, it can double as a flash drive. Third, it’s small enough to carry around at all times and saves you from having 5 different cables for downloading from phones, cameras etc.

Not a great gift idea, not something you’d dream of for days, but definitely a good investment.

Roll-up Mouse Pad With Speaker + Hub

Roll-up Mouse Pad With Speaker + HubA mousepad isn’t usually a very interesting thing; it’s just something you use and might have cute kittens on. Unless you’re a gamer and like spending hundreds of dollars to get better headshots, of course.

But, despite being another dreaded convergence gadget, the Roll-up Mouse Pad With Speaker + Hub actually seems like a good idea. Aside from the ovbious USB ports, a set of functional speakers – even not the best – are handy for playback from a portable player, and since all this wraps up in a small package can only make it better.

It’s far from an ideal solution for music lovers or the ultimate USB hub, but it could be a simple solution for people who travel a lot.

10 ways to stay warm this winter for less than $30

If you’re dreading to go to work in the morning because of the cold or shivering in front of the computer while reading this… you need some solutions for getting warm. Beside from alcoholic drinks in large quantities, that is. Which we don’t advocate.

And since being warm is something basic, it shouldn’t cost a lot, which is why all these 10 products cost less than $30. I don’t need to mention they’re just about perfect Christmas presents, do I?

On the street

Micro Handy Warmer Cell Phone Strap1. The Micro Handy Warmer Cell Phone Strap is more phone charm than hand warmer, but it can be used if you’re freezing, even though it’s tiny. However, its size makes it great for children (and you can bet they’ll be in awe at the way a liquid turns into a hot solid).

At home

Sweet Talking Bear2. If you’re going to be away, don’t let your significant other or kids feel cold and lonely. The Sweet Talking Bear can record and playback a short message and warm up the night with its microwaveable interior bag.

Cozy Feet Microwavable Foot Warmers3. Remember what mum said when you were young? Always wear socks and slippers. For many people, these is a must, and not just because they might catch a cold; for many of us, (literally) cold feet means freezing all over. A pair of Cozy Feet Microwavable Foot Warmers could solve the problem, at least for a while. If you can get used to the idea that something that was on your feet will be in the same place as food.

USB Big Slippers4. The USB Heating Slippers, on the other hand, don’t raise this problem. They’re perfect for the job… as long as you’re stationary. They come with a system that allows them to be detached from the USB port and worn around, but clumsy people should avoid them nonetheless. Good for long computer work nights.

Snuggie5. But it’s not all about computers and we don’t have USB ports all over the house. The Snuggie offers a low-tech and very smart heating method: the good ol’ blanket, in a new shape. It could be described as a blanket with sleeves or a huge house robe, but the bottom line is the same: you’ll be warm and still be able to use your hands.

In the office

USB Heating Mousepad6. Hand freezing on mouse is a terribly unpleasant sensation, but it’s usually unavoidable in cold or drafty rooms. Unless you do something about it, that is. The first solution is an USB Heating Mousepad, which warms up the area around it like a tiny heater and defrosts your hand in the process.

USB Warming Mouse Pad7. The second gadget for the problem has a similar name, USB Warming Mouse Pad, but a very distinctive look: a blue shark that “bites” down on the mouse – hand included. It seems to heat better and it’s more fun, but it can also impede movement, so it’s your call which of the two seems better.

USB Heating Gloves8. If you don’t feel like changing your mousepad, there’s still a way to keep your hands warm: USB Heating Gloves. They’re fingerless, to keep typing as easy as possible, but also come with a cover for the fingers for more effective heating during breaks.

USB Heated Shawl9. An USB Heated Shawl might sound like a silly idea at first, but that means you’ve never worked with people who like the keep the window open in winter (or you’re one of them). You’re at your computer anyway, so why not take advantage of it and power your heat source? It might make you look a bit like grandma, but you’ll be so warm you won’t care.

USB Eye Warmer10. Finally, for those who stare at the screen more hours than it’s comfortable: USB Eye Warmer. If for you resting your eyes involves heat, you’re the perfect cadidate for this. A little rest on lunch break and you’ll be ready to finish that important project without a headache.

USB Car-Style Ashtray

USB Car-Style Ashtray
Those empty USB ports are just dying for a silly gadget, aren’t they? Some sort of 5-in-1 thing that will only get used twice…

But perhaps an USB gizmo which is actually useful might be better. Non-smokers pay attention, this is the perfect gift for the friend or colleague who’s been annoying everyone with their smoke.

The USB Car-Style Ashtray connects to an USB port and helps keep the air clean by sucking in the smoke. Whether it’s efficient or not… we won’t know until we try it, but it’s a start. In the meantime, if you’re stuck for Secret Santa ideas, this could be a life (and lung) saver.

Black Rose USB Drive

Black Rose USB DrivePortable memory as jewelry is not a new idea, but new models keep popping up.

The latest is the Black Rose USB Drive and, despite what you’d expect, it doesn’t look that bad, considering that jewelry and technology aren’t the easiest things to combine. If you like (or can ignore) the fake diamonds, the rest is great. The USB connector retracts into the pendant (for protection and to avoid harming its look), and while the 2GB storage isn’t impressive, it’s not bad either.

If you’re looking for a trendy way of keeping your favorite tunes or important documents close… this just might do the trick.

USB Heating Slippers

USB Big SlippersFor someone who has cold feet (literally) even in the middle of summer, the mention of “USB heated slippers” triggers an “I want!” reflex. But then, when the whole thing registers…

USB heating. Hmmm. How do you wear slippers attached to a computer? Actually, the USB Big Slippers are even weirder: “they” are actually one slipper, large enough to fit both your feet, so there’s no way to move anyway (unless you like hopping around). They come in two styles, monkey and strawberry, and they actually look pretty cute.

On the other hand, there’s three models of regular slippers (panda, for men, for ladies) which could be used to walk around the house, if they weren’t tethered to the PC. Yes, the cable can be unplugged, but wanna bet how often you’ll remember to do that? I don’t see a bright future here.
