For anyone with a certain amount of hardware knowledge, plugging something in the wrong hole seems impossible. They look different, they are even color coded, how can you go wrong?! Oh, you can… I used to think that stories like these were exaggerations, but I was proven wrong.
It probably won’t help educate the users, but if you’re in tech support you can at least wear the Try Another Hole t-shirt for comedy value. Even if they don’t learn that each device goes in a particular hole or that they should look at what they’re doing, at least the double entendre can make them laugh. They’ll be less likely to get pissed off when you tell them they messed up the cables again.
